SoS, VTC, Ira International emerge hockey champions

ANEESH Deshpande scored a hat-trick as School of Scholars (SoS) thrashed Royal Gondwana Public School by five goals to nil in the final of the District Sports Office organised inter-school Under-17 Nehru hockey tournament.
The tournament is played at Police Lines Takli ground.
It was a totally lope-sided match with SoS controlling the entire game.
Deshpande opened his as well as his team’s account in the 4th minute and doubled the lead two minutes later. He completed his hat-trick in the 10th minute to take the match away from RGPS. Sujeet Darpurkar then sounded the board twice in the second half to complete the rout.
Darpurkar scored first in 28th minute and rounded it off in the 34th minute.
Vimaltai Tidke Convent (VTC) blanked School of Scholars by three goals to nil to clinch the Under-15 Nehru Hockey title.
Umesh Umathe sounded the board in the 10th minute to put VTC ahead. The lead was stretched in the 24th minute through Ayush Shukla. Sarvesh Kurmurkar scored the third goal in the 30th minute.
Earlier in semis, School of Scholars pipped Bhavan’s Ashti 2-0 to move into summit clash.
Mohit Mandaukar (7th) and Satvik Murmure (37th) were the scorers.
In the Under-17 girls section (suburbs), Ira International School edged out Vimaltai Tidke Convent 2-0 to clinch the title. Ritika Malik put Ira International ahead in the 28th minute and Aarohi Velukar doubled the lead in the 40th minute. Earlier in the semis, Ritika Malik’s twin blow in 22nd and 38th minutes helped Ira International beat School of Scholars. VTC got direct entry into final.
On Tuesday: Under-17 girls semis: St Ursula vs Ramesh Chandak (9 am); St Joseph’s, Jaitala vs Swaminarayan (10 am).
